Job opportunities in Bioinformatics

When we think about Job or Research after a degree in Bioinformatics, most of the people choose to do Ph.d in US and Europe.

Most of the European Universities prefer the students who are really interested in doing research for 3 - 4 years. Most of the universities don't expect TOEFL to apply for Ph.d.

American universities chose based on GRE and TOEFL scores to do Phd for 5 years.

Finally companies prefer the students who are strong in software side.

I have done my graduation in microbiology and masters in bioinformatics. I am looking forward to do PhD in USA. Can any one suggest me, should I go for PhD in microbiology or bioinformatics. Because what I have heard is to do PhD in Bioinformatics you need to have strong computer background. And as a Bioinformatician what computer language I should excel in?
Thanks in advance.

itt wld be pretty tough to carry out your phd in a bioninformatics field as u must have rightly learnt in ur masters dat u need propre grasp of programming. u needto know at the very leaast cjava and perl, with a smattering of unix.. unixx is among the most popular of oses out er. so u need to be good at that.. if u do not know wat languages these are do not wrry. they may sound tough but are easy.. wat u shld knw is dat u shld arry out ur phd on a subject which is of ur liking. it can be social sciences, it can b arts or wwateva.. if ur interested in it, carry it out... coz phd is something which ur going to spend a major part of ur life on.. so unless ur interested in it, u shld not approach the subject. and dnt wrry.. once u get into hd, automatically ull have to earnt he subjects. so do not wrry dat u dnt knw computers. at the wrst ull take one extra year to complete ur phd but in the end u will be doing ur phd in a field of ur choice.. all the best.
